---Our Mission Statement---

The Cross Church, SBC exists to declare the good news of Jesus Chist in our community, city and world. We are committed to providing an atmosphere that fosters spiritual growth, and helping people develop an on-going relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Cross Church is a part of the Southern Baptist Convention. We are Christians who share a unique faith. As Southern Baptists we believe that the Bible is the sole Authority for faith and practice. God calls us directly, as individuals. Believers accept Jesus as their personal Savior, and are guided by the Holy Spirit.
The Baptist Faith and Message says, "A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a local body of baptized believers who are associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel." We come together with the belief that we are all under the lordship of Jesus Christ, the head of the church.

As a Southern Baptist Church, The Cross Church participates in giving through the Cooperative Program, a giving strategy that takes contributions from all churches involved and pools the money to be used in missions and ministry all around the world. Through the Cooperative Program The Cross Church literally touches the lives of people all around the world with the good news of Jesus Christ.

We hold to two ordinances: baptism and the observance of the Lord's Supper. An ordinance is simply a command that has purpose and meaning, found in the Bible. Southern Baptists believe in baptism by immersion only because the Greek word "baptizo" means immersion. The Lord's Supper is a reminder of what Jesus did for us in dying on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. To become a member of The Cross Church, one must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and have been Scripturally baptized, by immersion.

The church is made up of believers in Jesus Christ. We welcome anyone who would like to visit our church to worship with us. If you would like more information about the church, feel free to call (509) 966-0180 or send an e-mail.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CROSS CHURCH
(Formerly First Southern Baptist Church)

The church was organized on March 24, 1932. There were about 30 people who came out of First Baptist Church to form Bethel Baptist. The Bethel Baptist Church rented a log cabin in the Yakima Fair Grounds until it burned in October of the first year. A lot at 1302 S. 8th was purchased in December 1933 and construction of a building began. In 1949 the Church moved to Chestnut and 6th Ave. About this time the name was changed to First Southern Baptist and affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. First Southern through out her history has been a mission minded Church. She led in the sponsoring and developing of a number of missions, many of which grew into churches. Among these are Union Gap Baptist, Chestnut Street in Ellensburg , Summitview Baptist and Tieton Baptist.
The church purchased the building at 1019 Cornell Ave. and met there from 1995 until our merger with Summitview Baptist Jan. 2009.
On June 12, 2004 The church voted to change the name to "The Cross Church, SBC"
On January 1, 2009 The Cross Church merged with Summitview Baptist Church and moved to 8700 Summitview Avenue.
We kept the name "The Cross Church, SBC" and are looking forward to growing and building for the future.

Jesus said, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.... Matt. 28:19-20. This is the great commission.
One of the greatest tools God has given us to fulfill His Commission is the Bible Study (or Sunday School) organization.
Through our open bible study groups we engage people in evangelism, discipleship, ministry, fellowship, and worship.
